- On Sunday, July 16, 1922, the first service was held in a large tent on the lot
where the hall's permanent structure was to be built. The construction
began in September and finished in November. A number of today's
congregation can trace their family back to the early volunteer members
who joined to build the hall. It's recorded that 220 people attended
the first Gospel meeting inside the building.
- The Gospel message was brought to the Grand Bend area by two young
Scottish evangelists. They began in the fall of 1921 to share truth from the
bible proclaiming "God's Way of Salvation". ("The Gospel" is simply the good news of God the Father's promise, that through belief in His Son Jesus’ victory at the cross, sins are forgiven and a home in heaven is promised.) “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
- The young men shared the message of good news nightly in a vacant log church (long since disappeared) located near what is now the Huron Country Playhouse. Meetings then shifted to a main street hall next to what was then the Bossenberry Hotel (up until recently Coco's)
- Interest in the preaching continued so that by that spring as many as 200
locals were regular attendees at these meetings. It was from these
attendees that the church was formed.
- The original building, at 63 Ontario Street South, is still in regular use today. It has had some upgrades and renovations over the years.
- In appreciation of God's goodness through the years till now, a century later,
plans have begun again to share this same message out into the community.
- Please join us to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ and His offer of salvation to you! SUNDAYS at 7 PM -
